#25. Phillips House, 433 Main Street c. 1830; rebuilt 1860
Named after S. W. Phillips, president of the
Peoples National Bank in the late 1880's,
the house is one of the most decorative buildings
in this sector. It has a scalloped slate
roof, massive decorative woodwork, heavily
bracketed mansard roof, and a carriageway
through south wing. A notable feature is the pair of white cast iron lions
straddling the front steps.
